Frequently Asked Questions

How much space do you need? Do you need anything else?

Typically, an area 8 feet wide by 8 feet deep is all the space needed.  Also, the setup area needs to be level and either covered or shaded.  We need access to grounded electricty to power our sound system.

Do you require a deposit/contract?

Yes, we require these items in order to lock-in the booking for you. The balance is due the day of the event.

Do you provide music during breaks?

Yes, we play Caribbean themed music as we setup and during all breaks, providing continuous music during your event.

Can you configure your band to different sizes?

Island Sounds’ rates are surprisingly reasonable, and the band would be happy to put together a show fitting any budget. Because of the band’s unique ensemble, Island Sounds can configure to any size to fit your needs. We would love to work with you to bring the sounds of the Caribbean to your event!

Is setup and breakdown part of the performance time?

No. If you book the band for 4 hours, you will receive a 4 hour performance. We will arrive early and set-up before the start time of the event.

What is you usual attire?

It depends on the event, but usually we wear Khakis matched with a Tropical shirt.

How do your breaks work?

The band takes a 10 minute break after the first hour. For example, if the performance is 2 hours, there will be one 10-minute break.

I would like to make announcements and/or toasts during the event. Is a microphone available?

A sound system and microphone can almost always be provided, just provide us with advance notice of the request.  The cost of the band often includes the sound system. However, additional fees may apply depending on the size of the sound system needed and the logistics of setting up the sound system at your event site.

Why do you need shade?

The steel drums need shade so that they will not go out of tune. Direct sunlight damages the instruments.
